FMC Owerri Intends to Conduct Mass Burial of Abandoned Corpses
The management of Federal Medical Centre Owerri intends to conduct mass burial of abandoned corpses in the hospital’s mortuary. This was revealed through a public notice, published on Daily Post on 29th September 2021, signed by the Public Relation Officer of the hospital, Achonu Jacinta PhD.
This is not the first time the exercise would be conducted by the hospital as many unidentified patients and corpses are often abandoned in most of the government hospitals across the country. However, this particular exercise is raising serious concerns because Imo State was bedeviled by lots of gun battle a few months ago.
A situation that left the hospital’s mortuary flooded with both identified and unidentified corpses of alleged victims of extrajudicial killings, alleged unknown gunmen, as well as those caught in crossfire between the unknown gunmen and the security forces.
The hospital’s management has requested that ” those whose relatives are missing should visit the hospital’s mortuary for possible identification and collection of such corpse(s) within two (2) weeks from” the date of the public notice.
